YOU MUST DECOMPRESS THE FILES ON THIS DISK BEFORE YOU CAN USE THEM!
Some files will expand themselves automatically by double-clicking. With others, use the decompression utilities found in the COMPRESS folder in the main window of the disc.
SUGGESTION: Put the Stuffit Expander™ program out on your desktop. When you want to expand any file on this disc, drag that files (or files) onto the the Stuffit Expander™ icon. All the files will be expanded automatically, with the exception of Sound files, which are in Disk Doubler™ format. For sounds, simply double-click them or use the DD Expand program in the Compression folder.

FILE COMMENTS AND DESCRIPTIONS

Put the File Comments application (the little CD-ROM icon) on your desktop: Copy it to your hard drive, then leave it out near the bottom or side of your screen. When you want to know the description of a file, drag it onto the little CD-ROM icon and a screen will appear.

USING THE INDEXES

On Location™:
This disc has several indexes. On Location™ users can access the On Location index automatically. We highly recommend this desk accessory, if you do not already use it.
File Descriptions:
There is a complete name and description index, "Giga-ROMDirectory," in both Microsoft Word5 and ASCII text formats in the folder named, "Directories." Use your word processor to open one of the two lists, which contain the complete name, size, and description for every file in the collection.
Sub Directories:
For faster searching, open the subdirectories folder and open the folder that most likely contains the files you are interested in.
Database Import:
If you would like to import tab-delimited fields for name, size and description into your own database, use the file "Giga-ROM.Data."

USING COMPACTPRO
•••••••
Most of the files are archived in Bill Goodman’s Compact Pro format. The Compact Pro archiving program is included on the disc in the compress folder on the root level of the CD-ROM and in the online compression library your users will see.
Take the time to print out the release notes and the user guide, then consider registering your copy of the Compact Pro program. A handy order form is included for your convenience.
To de-archive a file, follow these simple instructions:
1. Install the Compact Pro program on your hard drive.
2. Double click the archive you wish to open. The Compact Pro
program will launch automatically, or in some cases, the file
will de-archive itself without launching the program.
3. If the file launches Compact Pro, a screen will come up giving
you a chance to register your copy of Compact Pro (if you have
not already done so). Choose register to enter your name and
registration number. Otherwise, choose the button labeled Not
Yet. Your archive will appear in a new window showing the
file(s) available to de-archive.
4. Click on (choose) the file(s) you wish to remove from the archive.
“Command E” will extract the chosen files and allow you to place
them somewhere on your hard disk, or perhaps a floppy.
5. To open another archive, choose “Command O” (not zero) or look
under the file menu for “Open” with your mouse; or simply double-
click the new file.
Compact Pro is one of the best shareware programs on the market today. We recommend, as the author suggests, that you register your copy after the first 30 days of use. Bill Goodman deserves your support for this excellent program. Your $25 payment will earn you registered user status and will allow Bill to advise you of regular updates.

USING THE GIGA-ROM ARCHIVES ON A BBS

The very nature of this disc as an archival collection lends itself to the creation of a state-of-the-art bulletin board file section. Indeed, the largest Macintosh bulletin board systems in the world are using this disc as one of their main file sections.
The BBS folder contains a number of useful utilities for several host programs.
